The three All-Star Resorts are usually my go-to. All-Star Movies probably has the most Disney touches. Kim Renfro/INSIDERI often stay at one of the three All-Star Resorts (All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, or All-Star Sports), which share one property at Disney World. They're usually the cheapest resorts and have the same general perks as the expensive ones. How long this trend will last is unclear, though it's clear a lot will depend on the direction of interest rates. This dynamic isn't surprising given a high interest rate environment that has pressured consumers. "Elevated interest rates are causing customers to defer their large discretionary projects," UBS analyst Michael Lasser said. "This means that a recovery should be robust as interest rates move lower." "Existing home sales also continue to be a material headwind to remodel activity as long as interest rates remain relatively high," Badishkanian said.

It also reflects that there's money in the system — but Chinese consumers are just really not that keen on dropping their hard-earned cash at Starbucks or Gucci. China's savings rate was around 32% last year — compared to around 4% in the US, according to a McKinsey analysis of official data. Several investors released a joint letter this month urging fellow shareholders to vote down the package as excessive. Tesla shareholders approved the pay package in 2018, with compensation tied to Tesla's performance including its market value. In the 440-page proxy statement explaining the vote, a committee of the Tesla board noted the "novel circumstances." A majority, 78%, of U.S. workers say they don't use all of their PTO, according to a new Harris Poll survey of 1,170 American workers. People cited busy schedules, heavy workloads and a persistent "pressure to always be available" as the biggest impediments to taking more time off. Still, paid time off is a sought-after benefit among U.S. workers, with 48% saying they would rather have more PTO than a higher salary, the Harris Poll found. That means the iconic profession is not only drastically underrepresenting Asian Americans, but historical data shows the community isn't making up ground like other minority populations. While the federal data may shock those outside the community, it connects to a long-documented problem of those who have historically held power mentoring others who look like them. Yet there has never been an Asian American judge appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. A Washington Post analysis found Biden has appointed the most non-white judges of any president, and approximately 14% have been Asian. It's also worth noting that the share of Asian judges has jumped around over the past decade rather than moving in a straight line.

Benjamin Xiang, a San Francisco-based flight attendant, went on his first cruise last August, setting aside his reservations about "cruise people" and a type of trip he'd imagined would be "not my travel style." He's among the many cruise newbies who've helped power the industry's recent growth. Some 27% of cruise passengers over the past two years have been first-timers, up 12% from the prior two-year period, according to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), a trade group. That's exactly what cruise operators are hoping for, and so far they're getting it: 82% of all cruisers say they'll book again, CLIA's latest report found. After welcoming 31.7 million passengers last year, 7% more than in 2019, the industry expects volumes to swell to 34.7 million by the end of 2024.

Mario Anzuoni | ReutersOff-price retailers like TJX Companies and Ross are still posting sales gains and taking market share from rivals, but it's not just because consumers are under pressure and hunting for value. TJX and Ross both reported fiscal first quarter earnings last week that came in better than Wall Street expected, even as both companies lapped outsize growth from the prior-year period. Ross, which runs Ross Dress for Less and dd's Discounts, posted an 8% jump in sales, bringing revenue to $4.86 billion, compared to estimates of $4.83 billion, according to LSEG. "That's because they're providing consistent value to the consumer – and that's branded consistent value to the consumer at a discount price," said Roach. The dynamic is a bit different at Ross, which has more exposure to the lower- and middle-income consumer than TJX does and competes more on price, said Siegel.

Younger Americans are finally outspending baby boomers, former Wall Street bank analyst Meredith Whitney recently noted. That's an encouraging sign for the US economy, which most economists believe is healthy, though some bearish prognosticators have serious doubts. There are several possible explanations for these findings and numerous takeaways from them, the "Oracle of Wall Street" said. However, young Americans' spending power shouldn't be discounted, as Whitney suggested that they command relatively high salaries since they attend college at higher rates. A continued economic expansion would be especially crucial for Gen Zers and millennials, who are entering the workforce or establishing their careers.
